site went online in 1998 as a resource for lesbians in midlife and beyond.
It was created by a
50-something latebloomer, Kristine Abney [left] who had come out as a
lesbian at age 46 and wanted to connect with other newly out lesbians in
midlife and beyond.
Over the last 9 years, the
site has grown beyond latebloomer stories. With the help of
numerous volunteers who support our discussion boards and e-mail
groups, this site averages 50,000 visitors every month, primarily from the
USA and Canada.

Empowered Sapphic Wimmin is a generic email group for fun and
friendship. This is a warm, friendly group where members exchange stories,
support, photos and friendship. Most of our members are age 40+ lesbians,
bisexual women and married lesbians but all
women are welcome.
